4 Ways To Submit To God, and Resist the Devil.

It was hard for me to believe that someone could hate me. I mean not to say that I was perfect in the least, but I always carried myself in a way that was very sensitive to the feelings of others. Although I learned early that people will still treat you bad anyway, I still had no idea that someone could hate me BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN….

Before YOUR parents even conceived you, you were loved…AND HATED.

You were a mess up in a plot of your enemy, Satan. The strength and power that God gave you long before you were thought about, became Doom’s Day for him. You weren’t a issue for him when you were a lover of your own desires. Slowly dying in the cares of this world, but the moment you became a mouth piece for God (Yes, the way you live your life can be a mouthpiece to others for God), you automatically became a problem for Satan. He doesn’t want you to reach your full potential in Christ because once that happens, then comes your anointing, your faith increase, blessing, joy and most of all being able to resist him, because he knows then that he has to flee.

Submit to God, resist the Devil and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

It was that scripture that helped me realize that my submission to God was what was necessary for me to withstand the plans of Satan for life. Here are four ways to submit to God, and resist the Devil.

Prayer has, for some reason or another, been the secondary answer when it comes togirl-15599_1920 finding out the will of God, handling situations that we’re ALREADY deep into or just for basic things. Once you’ve unsuccessfully tried everything else, prayer then becomes this amazing, unheard of solution in the mist of core battle with the enemy. It’s in your praying that God reveals Satan plan OR His answer to whatever you’re inquiring about or headed into. Developing a CONSISTENT prayer life with God, will build your lifeline when it comes to silencing Satan. When you look at different people in the Bible, they used prayer to make their requests known to God. Hannah, in the book of 1 Samuel 1:9-11, prayed desperately for a son. In return not ONLY did God bless her with a son, but Samuel grew up to be an amazing prophet. One who’s prophetic record was spotless. Prayer has also been used to intercede on someone or a group’s behalf. Christians in Acts 4:29-30 prayed FERVENTLY for Peter while he was in prison. Even Jesus Himself prayed! When He was on the cross, Romans soldiers were taunting Him, saying “If you’re the real Messiah, get yourself down!”, Jesus prayed…to His Father for mercy.” Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) If you’re new at developing a prayer life, begin writing out specific things to target in prayer, so you’re not just saying things all over the place. Start with just 5 minutes. If you can do longer, GO FOR IT because as you get more and more into your prayer mode, you’re see that 5 minutes just won’t be enough time to be in the Lord’s presence.

dishes-938747_1920Our flesh tends to get a little out of control, or sometimes we just want a little more closeness with God, & denying ourselves & seeking things spiritual will help. So what constitutes as “fasting”? I heard my pastor say, “Fasting is giving up anything that you’ve made your God.” Anything that takes our attention away from God, can be considered something to fast from. For me, social media. I sometimes come home from work, shower, eat and then I’m on my phone for the night….did you hear ANYTHING about God??? Nope, was not reading a Bible plan! Some fasts do require no eating. Whether it’s missing one meal, or all three. Others require just re framing from TV or social media. Once you start getting more connected with God, allow Him to deal with you spiritually to determine what parts in your life need the most flesh killing. Then go on your fast. In your fasting time pray, read, listen to gospel music, focus on nothing but God. Keep in mind that fasting is considered a private thing and does not need to be broadcast. Take a look at Matthew 6:16-18. Also, married ladies take a look a 1 Corinthians 7:5

*Tip for your fast*: No matter what fast you are led to go on, you will  be tempted. What do you do? KEEP GOING! Don’t let the enemy make you quit your fast because you slip up and at a chip or saw something on Facebook! KEEP GOING! God will honor your commitment if it’s sincere.

John 14:15 says, “If you love me, you’ll keep my commandments.”  The third way to maintaining your strength with God, and resistance to the Devil is that you MUST BE OBEDIENT TO GOD. When Samuel finally realized that it was God who had been  calling him, he instantly was obedient and ready to answer the request of the Lord, “Here I am, Lord. Your servant, ready to listen.” (1 Samuel 3:10) When Ruth was faithful to her mother-in-law, Naomi, by not returning home to her homeland of other gods, God blessed her ( Ruth 1:16). Because she was obedient and worshiped the same God Naomi did, the true God, He blessed her to run into Boaz, who would later redeem Naomi’s family. It was also because of this faithfulness and obedience that she bore a son, who would start the bloodline for King David…and then later on Jesus Christ. Because Mary was obedient to God’s plan for her to bore a son, she gave birth to the same Jesus that would later go to the cross for the sins of the world. Obeying God may lead you on journeys that you will probably be afraid of, and sometimes will require you have to step out on faith. However, know that when you trust and obey God, he’ll prepare the way for you, making every cricket road straight. “Be still, and know I am God.” ( Psalm 46:10)

If you half do this walk with Christ, you will NEVER reach the full potential that He has for you, and you will ALWAYS be exposed to Satan . If you dibble and dabble with God loosely, don’t ever expect anything from Him. “A unstable man should not expect anything from God ( James 1:6-8). As a believer, we will walk through some difficult moment, however, if we remain faithful to the call, God will exalt us in due season. Your enemy’s plan is to distract you. Throw things in your way to get you side tracked, soon you’ll feel like God is so far from you. Keep pressing. Focus on the matter at hand. This is a fixed battle. We as the people of God have already won this battle, and Satan knows that. He knows that his time is limited, so he needs to take as many people with him as he can. Remain faithful, and consistent with God; pray, fast, seek His face, read, worship, praise in those hard times and OBEY the things that God instructs you to do, keeping in mind that “All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Can I Be Saved….and date???

*sigh* okay… this is one of those subjects that, believe it or not, some churches DO NOT want to discuss. It’s almost like they rejoice in the marriage, but completely block out the fact that about 80-85% of marriages had a dating period. Now, if you’re lucky to dodge the first date, getting-to-know-you phase then that’s totally great. However, if you have to start from the top like the majority that’s OKAY TOO.

I think one of the most important things to remember is that God loved you FIRST, and no matter who finds you and how you feel about them, you can never love them, and vise versa, the way God does. Sometimes in relationships we tend to put God on the back burner, and unintentionally devote all our time into our new significant other. THAT’S A NO NO. We can’t be forgetful of the one who’s was there when we were home alone.

W.A.V.E listen…being in a relationship with someone who DOES NOT feel the same way you do about who you consider to be your savior makes the relationship EXTREMELY difficult. Can it be done? Yes. Is it easy? No! Because they may not understand some of the things that God requires of you, especially as time progresses and you guys become closer. Most couples as time goes on tend to become hot & heavy, but if it’s your intention to save yourself for your husband, some fellows have a hard time restraining themselves. Especially if they are human like you, and feel those things.

In my previous relationship when I rededicated my life back to Christ, it made my relationship very difficult. He couldn’t understand the requirements that God had for me that (I didn’t know would be better for me in the long run). I was compromising EVERYTHING. There was even a time when he said “I feel like you’re choosing God over me.” Ladies…YOU’RE SUPPOSE TO! A man can’t have a clue how to love you without FIRST loving Christ.

Dating and being saved can definitely be done. But it has to be a thing of patience, not pushing. You have to understand that EVERYTHING is in God’s timing. The moment we start rushing things, the moment we mess up something that could have been great. We don’t have to rush and find him.

So breathe…(inhale…exhale) lol and enjoy the blessings and time you spend with God. The more time you spend in the arms of God, the more likely He will allow the right man to step in.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Be blessed! ❤

I Was NOT Suppose to be Here!

 Over comers By Our Testimonies

I think one of the most amazing things about God is His reminders. He places testimonies in people’s lives, who lives them out which not only makes THEM stronger, but strengthens the people that hear them. If I can think of one testimonies walking on the Earth that would inspire someone, it would have to be Amanda Alexander. I got a chance to sit and talk with her about her life  which helped shaped her into the W.A.V.E that she is today. Her story is truly a testimony for the ages.

Miracle Baby

“Girl, I wasn’t even suppose to be here! Nobody even knew that I was coming, but my mom and God.” She says. Not showing up on sonograms until her sixth month of development, would you know she was coming???? “Nobody believed my mom when she said that she was pregnant. People just thought it was all in her mind, so she was not getting any prenatal care for me. It was not until my mom was walking down the street, and decided to stop at this doctor’s office, that she found out that she was pregnant with me for real.” Amanda was born a month early, and for those who don’t know, the eighth month of development is very important. Amanda’s challenges came along with her development as a kid. “I had speech problems, I was put in special classes, I was partial deaf if one ear, which probably explained the speech problems, and my first teeth were rotten. It was just a lot, I was always very sickly.”

Early Life

As a kid, Amanda loved animals, comedy, her hometown and especially her neighborhood. She was very affectionate and sweet. Once she got to the first grade, Amanda was diagnosed with A.D.H.D., but unlike most children who are then placed on medication, Amanda never was. “My mom just chose to not put me on medicine. She just took time with me to help me get what I needed. She was very patient with me.” Amanda struggled academically, even so far as almost not passing 3rd grade. With the help of her mom and teachers, she was able to pass 3rd grade, and continue school.

Throughout that time, Amanda still tried her best for do well in school, while battling with different pressures. “Middle school were my worse years because I had friends turn their backs on me, I was giving into peer pressure, I was a cutting myself and in 7th grade I even contemplated suicide.” Thankfully, for the awesome God that we serve, who never leaves us or forsakes us, placed someone in her  live who could remind her of His undying love for her. That person for Amanda was Veronica Reeves, her longtime friend from pre-k. With tears in her eyes, Amanda recalls the unforgettable love Veronica showed toward her at a time when she really needed it. “She would be like Amanda  you can walk with me to class or come hang with me. She just never followed the crowd, she was STILL my friend through everything.”

The Development of the W.A.V.E

After completing high school and becoming a wife to her life-long friend, Marquez Alexander, Amanda took a position as Teen Coordinator at Girls Incorporated of Bay County in 1999. “I felt like this position was good for me because I could really relate to the teens, because some of the stuff they’re experiencing right now, I did already.”Being bubble, creative and imaginative, Amanda easily built trust and close relationships with her teens and the other young girls at the center. She further her participation in girls’ lives by become the choir director, which gave girls the opportunity to express themselves through music and the arts.

Singing for Amanda is nothing new, considering the fact that she takes the youth at her church to God directly every youth Sunday by leading some of the gospel hits songs like, “Stomp by Kirk Franklin” and “Heaven by Mary Mary.” Being the first lady of her church, Victory Temple, Amanda made sure not to leave the youth out, especially on their Sunday of the month. Her husband who pastor’s the church has nothing but great things to say about his elect lady and wife. “She just has a big heart for people, she sees the good in them. You know that scripture were it talks about extinguishing others above yourself? (Philippians 2:3)  Yeah, that’s her.”

How are you a W.A.V.E?

The finally thing I asked Amanda before we wrapped up our interview was the big question: After all of these things that had happened to you, what makes you a W.A.V.E?

“I think I’m a W.A.V.E because I am determined. I face fear. Sometimes I am afraid to fail, but God doesn’t give us the spirit of fear, you know? So, I face fear and I am trying to be the best I can be and to strive to be more like Christ.”

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1 Peter 2:9

It’s amazing how you’re reminded of God’s favor on you when you’re a kid, and how he uses the most simple things to give you an insight. My mind goes back to P.E in elementary school. There use to be this group of girls, ran by my own cousin, who use to walk their laps instead of running them. No big deal, right? WRONG! Apparently, it was this thing that if you didn’t walk with them you couldn’t be apart of the crew anymore. With my many insecurities, I needed to be among other people to detract the attention off of me.

Well, this one particular day I just really wanted to finish laps and make a dash for the basketball court, so I suggested that we go quick and get out laps out of the way. As time progressed and I got uneasy, my cousin stop everybody and said, “Ashley, if you want to go and get all sweaty that’s your business, but if you leave us you can’t come back to this group anymore.” (That was a big threat in elementary). After weighting my options I figured playing ball was much more worth it so I shrugged, said “Bye!” and I left them in the dust as I ran off like an Olympic track star. What was so amazing was after I ran off, I didn’t even think about the fact that I needed them to make me feel like something. I just wanted to do something different. From that day on, I never had a fear to stand out again.

I really didn’t don on this again until 2 years ago when I was trying to figure out who I was in Christ and whether or not I was even important. When this came back to my remembrance, I heard God speak and say, “I have called you to be different, and that’s okay.” I believe that if we truly trust God and just stand out from the crowd, we’ll be able to fully see Him manifest in our lives. Because everybody is not meant to go where we’re called to go, neither do some want to. Some people are content with where they are. (Walking their laps.) Blending in with the crowd only makes people over look that group.

Believe it or not, sometimes we look for something different. Who wants to go to same restaurant ALL THE TIME? who wants to do the same thing ALL THE TIME? I love how my jobs always requires flexibility and different things. The kids I work with don’t always want to do the crafts or sports. Sometimes they like when a new game introduced. God wants more of us, He wants us to stand out to be a light for someone else. You can’t find light covered up and hidden. Light doesn’t blend it, it shines for everyone to see. Let yourself shine! Go run those laps!

I Am Nothing Without You …

So tonight I was really not prepared MENTALLY to go to church. I was tired from working two jobs that both involved kids, and I was just ready to go to bed. However, when you said that you’ll do something, ESPECIALLY for God, you should most definitely  follow through.

So I get to church, sit down for a second, stand up, walk out to the lobby, COME BACK IN, sit down, then get back up and go outside. By now you can tell that I can’t get settled. As I’m headed outside I see something that completely grabs my attention. The pastor of the church is helping a lady into the service who is obviously MENTALLY battling with The Enemy (Satan). She backs up nervously, reaches into her pocket, pulls out a small Dasani bottle  bursts into tears and says, ” I can’t go in there, I have liquor!” For which the pastor then takes it and tosses it to the ground and escorts her in the church.

My heart was so heavy because although I didn’t WANT to be there just because of my own reasons, this lady wanted to be there, but felt that she was not good enough to even enter into the doors! Service starts and my church is in charge of doing  the praise and worship,  and as praise team leaders we always try to make sure that we are pleasing to God. After all the formalities of the service are over, we are called to sing another song. Our pianist, who’s a great friend of ours says, “Sing Where Would I Be Without You, I’m telling you, Ashley this is THE SONG for tonight.”

On good faith I trusted his judgement, and before I could get the mic in my hand good, the spirit of God just came all through me. I began to ask for the spirit of God to come in before the Word comes and for everybody to think back to where they were before God found them…long story short, the song took the whole church into a worship experience that was amazing.

I believe with all the traditional things of Christianity and religion, we kind of get spoiled. We think that just because it’s there, we can do it whenever. Different countries are dying for this, they are dying in the name of the Lord and we sometimes don’t want to get out of bed to come to church because it’s raining. As believers let’s soak up as much opportunity to dwell in God’s presence as we can. Because while I just did not want to go, that service could have saved that one’s life.

Chosen Beauty

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

-Psalm 139:14

I think one of the hardest things for me growing up was not that I felt that I was ugly or felt ugly, because I was told all the time that I was beautiful by many people that I knew, but it was that I could not understand my beauty. I always compared it to the stereotypical definition of beauty–society’s beauty and according to their standards, NOBODY was eligible to be considered “beautiful.” It was not until I got saved in my teen years that I learned that my beauty could not be defined by society.

In Psalms 139:14, the psalmist is excited and is praising God about the fact that he was “fearfully” and “Wonderfully” made. In the Hebrew translation of the Bible, the word “fearfully” means with great reverence, heart-felt interest and respect. This does not mean that you should carry a fear of THE WORLD, but rather you have a healthy respect for GOD. The word “wonderfully” means UNIQUE, SET APART, MARVELOUS.” Detailed characteristics, time and care went into the creation of you. Before you were even formed in your mom’s belly, God already knew everything about you (Jeremiah 1:5)  and the very details of your heart.

It’s difficult for children of God to try to fit themselves into what the world considers to be beautiful because your beauty is so rich and UNIQUE that you don’t even fit into a category! There is already enough of everybody else, but their is ONLY ONE YOU!
